New Dental Prosthetist joins the North West HHS team
The North West Hospital and Health Service (North West HHS) is excited to announce the arrival of Mark Warman, the new dental prosthetist, who is here to ensure that everyone in the North West can show off their pearly whites with confidence.
Let’s face it – saying ‘dental prosthetist’ is a mouthful, especially if you’re missing a few teeth, luckily Mr Warman is here to fill in the gaps, both literally and figuratively.
He’s moved all the way from a bustling practice in Perth, Western Australia, to bring his expertise to Mount Isa with the mission of tackling the waiting list for denture services and to help anyone in need of a new smile.
“It’s great to be able to make dentures on-site here at the Mount Isa laboratory, it makes the process much quicker than if we had to send the dentures away to be fixed or made,” Mr Warman said.
But creating a set of dentures isn’t a one-and-done deal, Mr Warman explained, “It can take multiple visits to get everything just right, and depending on the patient’s schedule and availability, it can take two to three weeks maybe even longer for the finished product.”
Mr Warman’s passion for dental prosthetics runs in the family – his father and grandfather were both in the same field.
Becoming a dental prosthetist is no easy feat, as it involves four years of training as a dental technician, followed by an additional two years of specialised study and training for dental prosthetics.
Mr Warman has dedicated many years to perfecting his craft and is thrilled to bring his skills to the North West community.
“Here in the North West I get the best of both worlds, I get to live in an outback community, and on outreach visits I still get to see the coast on my visits to Normanton and Mornington Island,” Mr Warman said.
Dr Saman Zahedi, the new Director of Oral Health, says it’s encouraging moving into a team that is growing with new talent.
“Being new to the team myself, it’s great to get a mix of new staff that can share their expertise mixed with established staff who understand the communities and can help integrate the new staff into the culture,” said Dr Zahedi.
Celeste Fraser, Senior Dentist at North West HHS said Mr Warman’s appointment would have a “massive impact” in the community.
“We will also be offering dental services on site in outreach clinics, so we’re encouraging people in outreach communities to register with us to go on the waitlist to receive treatment at their local clinic,” Dr Fraser said.
“It’s wonderful to have someone with his clinical skill knowledge and experience on the ground here.”
The North West HHS is thrilled to welcome Mr Warman and looks forward to the brighter, healthier smiles he will help create.
