Official opening of new Camooweal Primary Health Centre set for 26 November 2024

12th November 2024

North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHHS) is thrilled to announce the official opening of the newly built Camooweal Primary Health Clinic on Tuesday, 26 November 2024. The event will feature guided walk-through tours of the new and modernised facility, a community lunch, and special giveaways to mark this significant milestone for the Camooweal community.

The clinic rebuild, which broke ground on 27 May 2024, represents an important investment to enhance healthcare services in the region. Hutchinson Builders, known for their extensive work with Queensland Health, led the construction of the new clinic as part of the state’s $1 billion Building Rural and Remote Health Program.

NWHHS Chief Executive Sean Birgan expressed his excitement for the project, highlighting the lasting benefits this infrastructure will bring to Camooweal and the North West community.

“The existing health clinic has served the community well, but to meet the growing needs of Camooweal, it’s time for an upgrade,” Mr. Birgan said.

“Investing in long-lasting infrastructure today will reduce costs in the future and enable North West residents to benefit from high-quality care for years to come.”

The new facility boasts upgraded emergency care and resuscitation rooms, multiple consultation, clinical and meeting rooms, and enhanced staff facilities, designed to attract and retain healthcare professionals in the region while reducing long-term maintenance costs.

Executive Director of Remote Health Services Clare Newton highlighted the design’s adaptability, which includes consult rooms that can convert to clinical spaces with ease.

“The rooms will have the capacity to be consult rooms, meeting rooms, or clinical rooms, depending on our needs, with minimal disruption,” Ms. Newton said.

“The existing building is over 60 years old, and this new facility will reflect decades of technological advancement, positioning us well for the future.”

In addition to its advanced medical infrastructure, the new clinic incorporates sustainable features such as solar panels, updated water tanks, and a generator, reflecting the latest in building technology.

NWHHS invites the entire community to join the celebration on 26 November, as we open the doors to a new era of healthcare for Camooweal.
