North west Hospital and Health Service breaks ground on new Camooweal Primary Health Clinic
Ground was officially broken Monday 27 May, on the new $28 million Camooweal Primary Health Clinic with the arrival of successful tender, Hutchinson Builders who have a history of building projects with Queensland Health.
The rebuild will improve the delivery of care to the Camooweal community, support staff attraction and retention, and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.
North West Hospital and Health Service Chief Executive Sean Birgan welcomes the rebuild and future projects as part of the Building Rural and Remote Health Program (BRRHP).
“The existing health clinic has served the community well, but to meet the growing needs of Camooweal, it’s time for an upgrade,” Mr Birgan said.
“Investing in long-lasting infrastructure today will reduce costs in the future and enable North West residents to capitalise on high-quality care.”
Once complete, the health clinic will have emergency care and resuscitation rooms, multiple clinical and consult rooms, as well as an upgraded staff room.
Executive Director Remote Health Services, Clare Newton, is excited about the design capabilities enabling greater flexibility for staff.
“The rooms will have the capacity to be consult rooms, meeting rooms, and convert to clinical rooms with minimal disruption,” Ms Newton said.
“As the current building is over 60 years old, technology has advanced significantly and it’s important we incorporate this into the new building which is why the new design will include solar panels, updated water tanks, and a brand-new generator.”
The Camooweal Primary Health Clinic rebuild is one of several infrastructure projects as part of Queensland Health’s $1 billion BRRHP.
