North West Hospital and Health Service announces refurbishment of staff accommodation at Mount Isa Hospital

17th July 2023

North West Hospital and Health Service (HHS) is pleased to announce the upcoming refurbishment of its staff accommodation at the Mount Isa Hospital.

The $14.782 million project will encompass a comprehensive overhaul of all rooms and ensuites, providing a fresh and modern living space for staff.

Acting Health Service Chief Executive Sean Birgan said the project aims to enhance the living conditions and amenities for the dedicated staff of the health service.

“Our staff accommodation facilities have served us well but are due for an upgrade. We know that many staff move from other parts of the state to work in our health service, and we are looking forward to providing those needing accommodation with a contemporary living space,” Mr Birgan said.

“Each room will be equipped with new furniture, storage, cupboards, a refrigerator, and a television, ensuring maximum comfort and convenience for staff. All common areas will also undergo upgrades including the replacement of furniture and appliances.

“As part of the project, an exciting addition will be the establishment of an undercover outdoor barbeque area beside the pool. This new outdoor space will offer staff members a pleasant recreational area to unwind and socialise, further enhancing their overall experience within the accommodation.”

The tender process for the project is underway and it is anticipated that the refurbishment will be completed in early 2024.

North West HHS is dedicated to providing an improved and comfortable living environment for its valued staff members and know that this refurbishment will improve their experience while working in our region.

This project is in addition to the replacement of other health facilities in the North West announced earlier in the year. As part of the Palaszczuk Government’s Building Rural and Remote Health Program, Camooweal Health Centre, Normanton Hospital and Doomadgee Hospital will be replaced to improve infrastructure critical to the delivery of health services in rural and remote communities.
