Demolition works for ‘The Club’ commencing January 20, 2025
The North West Hospital and Health Service (HHS) wishes to advise the Mount Isa community of upcoming demolition works at ‘The Club’.
Demolition works are expected to commence Monday, January 20, 2025, and are expected to take approximately 11 weeks, with an anticipated date set for completion Friday, April 4, 2025.
While the North West HHS and demolition workers aim to limit disruption to community, there is expected to be noise pollution and potentially dust circulating from the area.
To facilitate this process, the car parks located between “The Club” and the “Leichhardt Medical Centre” will be temporarily closed.
This closure is necessary to allow for the installation of construction fencing around the entire block, which will create a secured exclusion zone as a safety precaution.
This zone is aimed at restricting access to areas where high-risk activities, such as demolition work, will take place.
Additionally, it will ensure that there is adequate space for the machinery, equipment, and personnel required to carry out the demolition safely and efficiently.
We understand that this closure may cause disruptions, and we are committed to providing you with regular updates throughout the duration of the project. Information regarding progress and any changes to the schedule will be communicated through various channels to keep you informed.
Health Service Chief Executive, Sean Birgan, is excited to commence the demolition process and begin community engagement processes to discuss the future designs for the space.
“While we have lots of ideas, we don’t yet know what the space will look like in the future, but we do know it will be safer and more secure for those who work and live nearby and will benefit the community greatly as we expand our health services,” said Mr Birgan.
“This building has been decommissioned for years; it was only a matter of time before it was going to come down.
“We know the community have plenty of memories of the space as we discovered during our garage sale back in 2024, we can’t wait to imbue the building with a new purpose that supports and reflects the North West needs.”
The North West HHS sincerely apologises for any inconvenience this closure may cause and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time.
