Cloncurry Aged Care residents enjoy community bonding with bingo

29th July 2024

Every fortnight, Cloncurry Aged Care residents come together for a spirited game of bingo with the local St Joseph’s Catholic School children. Each week will see a different grade join in the fun.

This heartwarming event not only brings joy and excitement to the residents but also fosters a sense of community and belonging.

The initiative is designed to support mental health and wellbeing of the aged care residents, emphasising the importance of community engagement and the value of getting to know one’s neighbour.

The weekly bingo sessions provide a fun and interactive environment where residents and students can bond and learn from each other.

For the students, this event is an excellent opportunity to develop communication skills in a different setting.

Interacting with the elderly helps them understand the importance of empathy and patience, essential skills for any community member.

Additionally, these sessions inspire some students to consider careers in nursing and aged care, fields that are vital to our community.

Director of Nursing at Cloncurry, Nida Asgar, encourages participation from all residents as well as their families who are welcome to join.

“We are thrilled to see the positive impact this initiative has on both our residents and the students.” Said Ms Asgar.

“The joy and laughter shared during these bingo games are truly heartwarming and demonstrate the power of intergenerational bonding.”
