A major milestone has been reached by The North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHHS) this week with the 10,000^th vaccination being administered.

With the first vaccination administered on March 16 2021, it is a significant achievement to have reached this milestone, which equates to 1 in 3 North West residents.

NWHHS Acting CE Dr Karen Murphy said it was fantastic to see the people of the North West coming forward to get vaccinated and protect the community.

“This milestone is a reflection of the members of our community doing their part to ensure the safety and health of our population and in particular, the more vulnerable communities in our region,” Dr Murphy said.

“I am extremely proud of the North West’s effort to be proactive and get vaccinated and I encourage anyone who is eligible who hasn’t yet got their jab, to book an appointment as a priority.”

NWHHS registered nurse Janelle Stuart-Russell has been involved in the vaccination rollout since launching and has been at the forefront of getting jabs into arms.

“We all know someone that has been impacted by COVID in some way and we are doing real work to protect our friends and family in this community,” she said.

“10,000 is a significant achievement and it’s a real job we are doing with a great team. If you haven’t visited us, come along, we’ll answer your questions and look after you.”

Alongside the Mount Isa Civic Centre Vaccination Clinic, a Homeless Outreach Clinic and a number of Outreach Clinics in our remote communities operate.
